A new legal service in the North and North West of Melbourne

RCT legal consultant, Ian Jupp, writes of the firm's new office location in Melbourne's North West.

Having only recently opened our new office in Glenroy, it has been good to meet with many locals who are in need of specialist injury lawyers in Glenroy, Broadmeadows, Westmeadows, Tullamarine and Campbellfield - in fact, right across the suburbs that are near Glenroy.

Of more a surprise was to see just as many clients seeking legal advice in relation to injury claims across the wider bank of suburbs, including Greenvale, Meadow Heights and right up and across to Craigieburn, Roxburgh Park and over towards Sunbury.

I have found that workers and their families who live or work near the Hume corridor are among the most vulnerable to injury in the Melbourne metropolitan area arising either from accidents at work or motor vehicle accidents.

The downturn in manufacturing industry and to some extent transport has exposed more local employees to job insecurity. When you are worried about losing your job, you can be tempted to cut corners, or even feel reluctant to report an incident for fear of reprisal.

Areas like Craigieburn and Broadmeadows are pretty much in the firing line as their major industries are doing it tough right now.

What was probably more of a surprise was to be exposed to quite a high rate of car accident injuries. The TAC lists the City of Hume in its Top 10 list of locations for serious injury.

It if is a workplace injury or accident, local people should be aware that it is illegal for any employer to penalize or intimidate and certainly to terminate employment of any worker who has submitted a WorkSafe or WorkCover injury report and claim.

Certainly it is easier to resist intimidation if you are in a union, as it is in receiving advice on how to submit a WorkCover claim.

But even if you are not in a union, you have the same legal rights. If you have been injured and simply need advice on those rights and how to proceed with an injury compensation claim or reimbursement of medical and other expenses, the legal team at the RCT Glenroy office is happy to help.

Remember, it costs nothing to get the right advice first up.

Ryan Carlisle Thomas is located at Suite 102, 2A Hartington Street, Glenroy, conveniently located opposite the station.
